Paia
and Kuau - the quaint oceanside village on Maui's North Shore
|
|
Today, though a little weathered, Paia still
has quaint charm
and an extremely casual atmosphere. Once a thriving plantation community, Paia is a rainbow of buildings and
home to people from all over the world.
For some, this brings a
remembrance of the late 1800's when sugar plantation workers immigrated
to Maui from countries all over the world. People of all races worked
side
by side, and a true sense of community began to emerge. The seaside
town
is still known for its relaxed pace and friendly smiles. Kuau (usually
considered a part of Paia) is along the ocean between Paia and Hookipa,
and home to Maui's best fish restaurant - Mama's Fish House. The
Paia/Kuau
area has a wide variety of vacation rental accommodation - from
inexpensive
studios to exquisite oceanfront houses.

Spreckelsville
- great beaches, superb windsurfing conditions
|
|
Spreckelsville
is a small residential
area
on
Maui, located between Kahului and Paia stretching for almost 1.5 miles.
It is the only area with houses/cottages that windsurfers can easily
launch
from. It has wonderful beaches and is in high demand for the oceanfront
houses with launch sites. Don't bother looking for any
hotels
or condos - they don't exist on the North Shore (with the exception of
Sugar Cove). Please remember... this area is subject to airport
noise!
