Lesson programs can help you achieve your personal best, while making your vacation truly memorable. Whether you're a beginner learning to balance on a long board for the first time, an intermediate ready to waterstart on a short board, or an advanced sailor wanting to master the waves or loops, lesson programs are available for all levels.
Lesson programs give you a true specialist by your side to help you progress to your fullest ability. They are specially trained to make the most of your day of windsurfing, but most importantly, they know how to make learning FUN!
Long Board Program for Beginners
With proper conditions, windsurfing is safe and easy to learn. First time sailors can learn to master long board techniques in the light morning breezes. Lessons are taught on high volume, stable boards with small ultra-light rigs to make introduction to the sport fun and easy. (NOTE: Special children's rigs are available). For many students the ultimate goal is to master a short board including waterstarting, sailing and jibing. If this is the case, we recommend two long board classes, followed by five or more days of short board instruction and practice.
Short Board Program
A. Introduction to Short Boarding - As soon as you are comfortable on a longboard, your first short board lesson will teach the basics of rigging, and an introduction to the techniques of waterstarting.
B. Waterstart - Ready to get up and go! Waterstart lessons teach the best and easiest methods to waterstart. Patient instructors teach how to let the wind do the work for you (and not let the wind work you).
C. Harness & Footstraps - Are you waterstarting, up and sailing? If so, get ready to "hook-in"! Make use of these important tools to get you planing across the ocean.
D. Jibing - No more falling and having to waterstart yet again, just to get turned around! Learn to maintain speed going into the turn, the footwork, the proper sail flip, and how to plane through the turn.
E. Wavesailing - Learn to ride the Maui waves! Learn proper etiquette and safety, as well as the basics of wavesailing, jumping and trick transitions.
